Fluoroquinolones (Quinolones) Pharmacology Nursing Mnemonic, Mechanism of Action NCLEX
Fluoroquinolones (also called quinolones) pharmacology nursing review, ...
Fluoroquinolones (also called quinolones) pharmacology nursing review, including mnemonics, mechanism of action, NCLEX Review.
Fluoroquinolones are a group of antibiotics that can target gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. Some gram-negative it can ...target include H. influenzae, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Chlamydia, E. coli, Klebsiella, Salmonella, Pseudomonas aeruginosa etc. And gram-positive includes Streptococcus pneumoniae, Enterococcus, Staphylococcus aureus etc.
Quiz: https://www.registerednursern.com/fluoroquinolones-quinolones-antibiotics-quiz/
Quinolones mechanism of action is bactericidal because it inhibits bacterial DNA replication. It does this by altering the function of the enzymes DNA gyrase and Topoisomerase IV.
Fluoroquinolones can be identified by the "floxacin" ending in its generic name. For example, some Quinolones include Ciprofloxacin and Moxifloxacin.
Nursing considerations are discussed in the video along with a mnemonic to help you remember those main concepts.

Next Generation NCLEX News: A CHANGE You’ll LOVE | Lab Values for NCLEX Changes

Next Generation NCLEX news: The Next Generation NCLEX questions are going to have a change that nursing students and nurse graduates will love, and it has to do with the ...reference ranges for lab values.
📚Nurse Sarah's Fluid/Electrolyte Study Notes: https://nursesarah.com/
As a nursing student and nurse, you'll learn about labs, including lab values ranges for normal and abnormal results, what the lab values indicate, nursing interventions, and so forth.
Videos to help you with labs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5Q2SoN28WU&list=PLQrdx7rRsKfUT0aksEEhX8zb_pqjRGlet
However, learning these labs has always been challenging for nursing students and nurses.
For one thing, there can be variation in different sources on what constitutes a "normal range" for a particular lab. One textbook may suggest one value, while another may suggest a slightly different range of normal. This also occurs at different facilities or in the reports of different labs that process results.
In addition, lab values can vary in the measurement units used, such as mEq/L or mmol/L.
In this video, you'll learn about an important change that the Next Generation NCLEX is making for questions that include reference ranges for lab values.
Finally, NCLEX is subject to change these details in the future, so keep that in mind.

Macrolides antibiotics: pharmacology review for nurses, nursing students, NCLEX, and more, including mnemonics and mechanism of action.
Quiz: https://www.registerednursern.com/macrolides-antibiotics-nclex-questions/
Notes: https://www.registerednursern.com/macrolides-antibiotics-nursing-pharmacology/
Macrolides are antibiotics that are most helpful against gram-positive bacteria, though ...they can also work on some gram-negative bacteria such as salmonella, chlamydia, and more.
Which medications are included?
-Fidaxomicin
-Azithromycin
-Clarithromycin
-Erythromycin
How are macrolides administered? These medications are commonly administered orally (P.O.); however, they can also be administered via the parenteral route (most commonly I.V.).
What is the mechanism of action for macrolides? These antibiotics are bacteriostatic, meaning they inhibit the growth of the targeted bacteria. The do this by targeting the larger 50s subunit of the ribosome, affecting translocation and inhibiting how messenger and transfer RNA move and create proteins.

Atrial Fibrillation (A-Fib) ECG, Treatment, Causes, Nursing NCLEX Review ACLS
Atrial fibrillation (A-fib) ECG / EKG interpretation, treatment, ...
Atrial fibrillation (A-fib) ECG / EKG interpretation, treatment, causes, and nursing review for nurses, nursing students, and NCLEX.
🫀Nurse Sarah's ECG Study Notes: https://nursesarah.com/
Quiz: https://www.registerednursern.com/atrial-fibrillation-a-fib-quiz/
Notes: https://www.registerednursern.com/atrial-fibrillation-a-fib-ecg-nursing/
Atrial fibrillation is one of the ...most common rhythms you'll encounter in a hospitalized patient. With this rhythm, the atria are contracting rapidly and at an irregular rate (very erratic). The atria are basically quivering, which increases the risk of a blood clot developing, which could lead to a stroke.
On an ECG strip, you'll notice that P waves are not present before the QRS complex. Instead, the P waves are replaced with irregular fibrillatory waves (also called F waves or fibrillary waves).
QRS complexes are present and measure less than 0.12 seconds, and the ventricular rate is irregular.
Many things can cause atrial fibrillation, such as heart problems (mitral valve disease, CAD, myocardial infarction, pericarditis, sleep apnea, and more).
Treatment can vary depending on whether the patient is stable or unstable, as well as the type of atrial fibrillation (controlled or uncontrolled). Sometimes an ablation is used in addition to other treatments such as synchronized cardioversion and anticoagulant medications.

Fine vs coarse crackles lung / breath audio sounds #shorts
As a nursing student and nurse, you'll want to know the different lung sounds. One area of confusion for many ...students is the difference between coarse crackles and fine crackles.
For coarse crackles, remember the 3 "L's": low pitch, long duration, and loud. These sounds often remind me of someone blowing a straw in water, and you can hear them during inspiration and sometimes expiration.
For fine crackles, they have a higher pitch, shorter duration, and softer sound. They remind me of the sound of crackling during a fire. You'll often hear these sounds toward the end of inspiration.

Aminoglycosides Pharmacology Nursing Antibiotics: Mechanism of Action, Mnemonic, Anti-Infectives
Aminoglycosides pharmacology nursing NCLEX review: Learn about this ...
Aminoglycosides pharmacology nursing NCLEX review: Learn about this class of antibiotics, including the mechanism of action (MOA) of aminoglycosides, the nursing considerations, and more.
Quiz: https://www.registerednursern.com/aminoglycosides-antibiotics-nclex-quiz-questions/
Notes: https://www.registerednursern.com/aminoglycosides-antibiotics-nursing/
Aminoglycosides primarily target gram-negative bacteria, ...though they can also be effective in some gram-positive ones as well.
Here are the aminoglycosides you'll want to remember, and we share a few mnemonics throughout the video as well:
-Gentamicin
-Neomycin
-Amikacin
-Tobramycin
-Streptomycin
This class of antibiotics is most often administered via IM (intramuscular) or IV (intravenous), though it may be administered orally or via inhalation in rare instances.
What is the mechanism of action for aminoglycosides? This medication primarily works to kill bacteria (it's bactericidal), and it does this by inhibiting the bacteria's protein synthesis.

PR interval ECG explained for nurses, nursing students, ACLS, NCLEX, and more.
🫀ECG Study Guide and Workbook: https://shop.registerednursern.com
The PR interval starts at the beginning of the P wave and extends to ...the beginning of the QRS complex. This demonstrates the amount of time it takes for the electrical signal to go from atria to the AV node.
The PR interval should measure 0.12-0.20 seconds (3-5 small squares on the EKG strip). If it is longer that that, it could indicate a heart block.

Glasgow Coma Scale assessment nursing review with mnemonics and simple explanation (NCLEX, OSCE, nursing school).
Quiz: https://www.registerednursern.com/glasgow-coma-scale-gcs-nclex-questions-quiz-nursing/
Notes: https://www.registerednursern.com/glasgow-coma-scale-gcs-assessment-nursing-nclex-review/
The Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) is used to assess a patient's level of consciousness ...(L.O.C.). The level of consciousness is how alert and responsive a patient is to his or her environment and the stimuli around them.
The Glasgow Coma Scale scoring is from 3 to 15. A GCS score of 3-8 indicates a severe brain injury; A GCS of 9-12 indicates a moderate brain injury; and a GCS of 13-15 indicates mild brain injury.
The higher the score on the Glasgow Coma Scale, the better it is for the patient. Three areas are assessed: the eye-opening response, verbal response, and motor response. Each area is scored individually, and the scores are added together to determine the total GCS score.
Central stimuli and peripheral stimuli are used during a Glascow Goma Scale assessment. Central stimuli can include the trapezius squeeze or supraorbital pressure. An example of a peripheral stimulus would include pressing on the nail bed.

Alzheimer's disease (dementia): Stages, symptoms, treatment, medications, pathophysiology, nursing interventions, NCLEX review.
Alzheimer's disease is a type of dementia that affects the brain. It leads to the gradual loss of cognitive, ...motor, and communication abilities.
Quiz: https://www.registerednursern.com/alzheimers-disease-nclex-questions/
There are various stages of Alzheimer's disease. These stages include: Preclinical Alzheimer's disease, Mild Cognitive Impairment, Mild Alzheimer's disease (Early Stage), Moderate Alzheimer's disease (Middle Stage), and Severe Alzheimer's disease (Late Stage).
The pathophysiology of this disease involves beta-amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles, which leads to the impediment of communication between neurons, and eventually the death of these neurons. Note: there is some controversy right now over this theory, so our scientific understanding of the patho may change with more research.
Testing for Alzheimer's disease includes: cognitive assessments, mental evaluation, diagnostic imaging (MRI, CT, and amyloid PET scan), biomarkers (cerebrospinal fluid CSF assessment for amyloid and Tau protein), and a new blood test that assesses for these proteins.
Signs and symptoms of Alzheimer's disease includes: apraxia, aphasia, anomina, agnosia, wandering, Sundowner's Syndrome and more. Nursing interventions for Alzheimer's disease include the 7 M's (memory, movement, maximizing communication and more).

NCLEX study plan: Learn NCLEX-RN study strategies and tips that helped Nurse Sarah pass the exam on her first try in 75 questions. This study guide schedule can give you ...an example of how to study for NCLEX.
Full study log here: https://www.registerednursern.com/my-hesi-nclex-rn-study-log-hours-the-books-i-use-to-study/
The study log above shows how Sarah prepared for the NCLEX and HESI exams while she was a nursing student.
Here are some important points to remember when starting your NCLEX review:
-Don't wait too long to study. It's best to start at least 3-6 months out, but remember that nursing school itself is actually preparing you for the NCLEX.
-Don't wait too long to take the exam. Nurse Sarah recommends taking the exam as soon as possible after you graduate nursing school so that the content is fresh on your mind.
-Allocate around 70% of your time focusing on your weak areas, and 30% refreshing your strong areas. Nurse Sarah explains how to find your weak areas and how to study in the most effective ways.
The NCLEX can be very intimidating for nursing students, but don't waste your energy fearing this exam!

Normally, the signal starts with the sinoatrial node (SA node), which is the pacemaker of the heart. The SA node leads to atrial depolarization. The signal travelsl down internodal pathways such as Bachmann's bundle, and then travels to the AV node (atrioventricular node).
The signal then travels to the Bundle of His, down the left and right bundle branches, and then to the perkinje fibers.
